Understanding by Design is a curriculum and assessment planning framework widely used across the world. The focus of Understanding by Design is teaching for understanding and transfer. This Learning Path, in which participants will explore Essential Questions, knowledge and skills, is designed to help participants become better equipped at using the UbD framework.
In this Learning Path, facilitated by Jay McTighe, co-author of Understanding by Design, provides participants with information about the role and development of Essential Questions and how they fit into the context of curriculum development. Participants will also distinguish between, and identify, knowledge and skills—what students should know and be able to do. This practical learning experience is designed for educators who are beginning their study of backward curriculum design. Through a variety of videos, collaborative discussions, interactive tools, hands-on activities, and reflections, participants will gain an understanding of backward curriculum design.
